Numerical analysis of square concrete-filled double skin steel tubular columns with rubberized concrete

Structural engineers have assessed the possibility of replacing part natural aggregates with rubber particles in concrete recent years to obtain sustainable structural members. It has been confirmed that use can enhance ductility and energy absorption capacity concrete. By contrast, compressive rubberized (RuC) is usually lower than normal (NC). Confining RuC steel tubes be considered as an appropriate solution for reaching a ductile member adequate strength. This paper, therefore, investigates behavior concrete-filled double skin tubular (RuCFDST) short columns by performing series nonlinear finite element (FE) analyses. The developed FE models were verified against experimental test results comparing axial load–displacement curves, ultimate strength, failure mechanism specimens. validated model was used investigate effects geometric material properties on RuCFDST 5%, 15%, 30% contents, compare performance (CFDST) columns. showed using filling square CFDST could significantly ductility. CFDSTs presented greater strengths RuCFDSTs. Reduced confining stresses between outer tube core displayed when applied compared CFDST.
